I. Planning:
Analyzing the opportunities and challenges that face your venture
on the Internet is paramount to it's success. Whether it be nonprofit,
an Internet hub, or an online store, the best place to start is
planning. If we don't know where we are going, we may not get
there. This is where we define our visitor/customer, how we will
get their attention, why they will visit us, and what we offer
them. We will determine how we will market our site. (See stage
IV. Marketing also)
We will define the end from the beginning. We will determine
the following:
- Appropriate host and platform.
- Additional tools or server software that will be necessary for
hosting.
- Where images, text and data for the site are coming if not from
scratch and schedule the next three stages.
- Determine navigational style of front-end.
- Rough layout of site.
- Marketing methods we will employ
- Estimate of completion date.

II. Gathering Media:
Now that we know what we are going to do and when, we need to
gather any images, text, and data that we plan to use on the site.
Whether it be brochures and photos for scanning, or retrieval
of digital files from the printer.
III. Construction:
We can now build the site. The elements of construction are as
follows:
- Finalize Layout / Map site
- Design necessary Graphics
- Scan, size and touch-up graphics for the site.
- Layout front-end and navigational aids.
- Layout sub-pages, forms, database, scripting, modules, etc.
IV. Marketing:
Much depends on successfull marketing of the site. A good analogy
for just building a site and hosting it; is printing 20,000 catalogs
and leaving them in boxes in a garage.
